The most anticipated event in any SA photographers diary – The PHOTO & FILM EXPO – is finally upon us! Africas largest photographic event takes place for the 4th time at the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg from the 18

th – 21st October and tickets are selling out fast! Get to to ensure you book yours early…

With more exhibitors than ever before, showcasing (and selling) more photographic and film related products and the best possible show specials this is the ideal opportunity to upgrade your gear and get those accessories you ‘need’..It’s also the only platform available to really get to compare a full product range and all the brands hands on.
Attendees get *free access (on a first arrival basis) to over 100 workshops and demonstrations at the event. R200 gets you a weekend pass (limited) that allows you access for all 4 days so you don’t miss a thing, day passes are available for only R80 (R40 for under 16’s and pensioners).

Be sure to arrive first to secure your spot at one of the numerous workshop areas or get to a demo area and watch a live shoot take place, from start to finish. There is a dedicated training area with unique presentations outlining all the major skill sets and more, a ‘strobist’ area where minimalists and gadgeteers hang out, a full fashion studio setup, a wedding area, and even areas you can compete against other photographers to win prizes.

In the 3 main arenas expect to be wowed by the biggest line-up of speakers yet, our international guest speakers include the world renowned Rufus Deuchler flying in from Italy, Devinder Sudera from India, Simon Moss from New Zealand, Angie Butler from the UK and Carolina Mantella from Patagonia.

This year dedicated gallery areas have been created where photographers work is professionally displayed at the event, there is even a gallery dedicated to the new trend of ‘Instagram’ and cellphone photography.

Expect to see another leg of the very successful PHOTOS FOR HOPE charity drive hosted on the mezzanine level. Over R100 000 has been raised for THE SUNFLOWER FUND already and we’re expecting the gallery to be larger and even better supported than before. UBUNTU – HELP PORTRAIT is another initiative supported by The PHOTO & FILM EXPO and they will be in attendance at the event. The initiative consists of a large group of dedicated photographers who regularly head out into underprivileged areas and take photos of people who can’t afford or are unable to have professional photos taken. Over 3000 images were distributed in these communities last year alone and it’s hoped that many more photographers participate in 2013.

The PHOTO & FILM EXPO has become renowned for the incredible giveaways that attendees to the event have a chance to win.This year giveaways are at an all time high with over R800k worth in prizes being handed out and an unbelievable lucky draw at the event. See website for details.
A photographic contest has been launched this year called IMAGE OF THE YEAR, this contest is FREE for all South African residents to enter online at and offers one winner not only the title but also a massive collection of essential photographic gear that will complement any photographers existing equipment.

With the PHOTO & FILM EXPO receiving full support from virtually the entire industry and even the Department Of Arts & Culture, a broad advertising campaign and online ticket pre-sales it’s clear that this years event will be the busiest yet.
